Iron sharpens Iron

Updated: Sep 8, 2022

A glance out the window looking for that silly squirrel Dad is feeding on the back steps. Hands busy chopping veggies and shelling shrimp for the dinner in progress. Aroma of garlic as it hits the hot oil mixing with the shallots already softening in the shallow pan.
Mom shuffles around the kitchen getting down plates and table essentials as we discuss the most exciting family news from this past year, a new little one is on the way!
But what is going on just a few feet away is so much more important. This conversation happening between two men is what makes my heart soar.

One is a retired pastor with a love for Jesus that has lasted and developed for decades. The other is also a minister who is a few years into his journey, together they share their passion for The Word.

I don't catch all the conversation as I'm involved in my own but I can't help but overhear this easy flow of thoughts and ideas between these two men. Passionate revelation regarding the most read and discussed written word in all of history. Stemming from this shared love for the man that came to this earth and suffered and died for their salvation. Redeemed from a life of sin.

These same two could easily relish in their old days and old ways. Instead it's about their Savior. The glory of our magnificent Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit, three in One. The younger also my husband, voice elevates as he talks about this love that overwhelms his heart. The older, my dad, eyes welling up with tears as he fully understands this passion.

For the woman who is the connection between these two men. I can honestly say this is one of the most valuable relationship I've had the pleasure of witnessing. The value and importance could never be measured. More should exist just like it. Where thoughts and concepts are heard, questioned, further discussed and possibly even challenged. Mentoring, fellowshipping and "as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another". Proverbs 27:17
